![]() So, any further word about your Open EMET? I'm sooo looking forward to it, and even more-so after seeing how polished your DEP Tools was. It has a large fan(boy) base, and many won't let it die easily. And now that XP's EOL is looming many are switching their efforts to that. Heck, some of them even still keep patching 98SE and keep it usable, in concert with the right 3'rd party software, hardening and usage. And could help extend it's useful life even past it's EOL, along with some good people at places like MSFN that will keep prodding and patching XP accordingly. It has the potential to be the best thing to happen to XP since Sandboxie. Major props to you! And I wish you God speed in completing this next project. Based on this DEP tool you created, I believe you can make it happen. And now it looks like that dream can become a reality. I was hoping for something like this ever since first discovering EMET and realizing it required. That doesn't rely on running on a bloated, glitchy, known to be vulnerable (in the past) framework to function, thereby eliminating pretty much all attack surface. The idea of an open source EMET, where everyone can contribute feedback and ideas to improve it. I can just see it being the final piece of my XP Pro puzzle. This really gets my hopes up for Open EMET now. ![]() Though I may find a few things eventually, or at least suggestions. You obviously did your homework first, and know what you're doing. I expected to have a ton of things to nitpick about, but I just don't. I'm really impressed with how polished it is. it being from a 1 man team and all and banged out so quickly. I admit I expected it to be quite rough around the edges. I'd appreciate any feedback or comments! Especially any problems or complaints. If you don't know your configuration, running SetDEP will tell you (just double click). You basically get all the benefits of AlwaysOn with the compatibility and convenience of OptOut. ![]() The Permanent DEP DLL can (should) be used on any version of Windows with OptOut (none of the Tools do anything with AlwaysOn/AlwaysOff). I guess not too far off my planned release on the 12th (I need to update that thread with what I found), considering the problems I found with Process Explorer, Windows 8 (especially!), adding a Safe Mode check (then removing it after testing), and finally adding extra manifest stuff to SetDEP for Win 8's silly Program Compatibility Assistant (which still seems to be doing something anyway).Īnyway, people should have system DEP configured as OptOut, at least. I finally got my "DEP Tools" ready a few days ago. system protection technology." If a mod thinks other software & services or something is better, please move of course. Process Explorer works on Windows 9x/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Server 2003, and 64-bit versions of Windows for 圆4 and IA64 processors, and Windows Vista.I'm posting in this forum as part of " other. The unique capabilities of Process Explorer make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded. ![]() The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you’ll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you’ll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. This also shows which file a program accesses. this is far better than the windows task manager. While deleting you get errors like “file in use”. This is required when you cannot delete empty folders. Many times you want which program is accessing a folder or what folder a program access.
